Trusting God in Troubled Times

Prophet Isaiah

Fig-1-1.jpg

There is no doubt that we live in troubled times, and we are not the first to do so! We have all heard passages from Isaiah, but few of us have probably studied the entire book of Isaiah. The Book of Isaiah was written between 739 & 681 B.C. and covered the times when the early Israelites were threatened and attacked. Many were exiled and many were killed. Like people today, they longed for peace and hope. People in the New Testament, including Jesus, quoted from the powerful book of Isaiah. This 22-week series focuses on God’s messages given to Isaiah in a vision. The studies help us explore the prophecies made in the Old Testament and help us discover how many prophecies were fulfilled in the New Testament. God’s message has not changed. Can we listen and make His message work in today’s world?

Of all the Gospel writers, John was the closest of the twelve disciples to Jesus. John was continually connected to Jesus and knew what it meant to ‘abide in Christ’. This 8-week series of studies focuses on the latter part of Jesus’ life. The studies help us explore the nature and work of Jesus- what lasting lessons did Jesus want us to understand? Learn why Jesus is “the way, the truth and the life”. Learn what it means to ‘Abide in Christ’.

** We will be using 'Abiding in Christ' study guide by J.I. Packer & Carolyn Nystrom

We would like to begin by acknowledging that the land on which we gather, and which St. John's Church operates is part of the Treaty lands and Territory of Anishinaabe, Huron-Wendat, Iroquois and home to Metis, and was most recently territory of the Mississauga of the Credit First Nation.

On this day our meeting place is still occupied by many indigenous peoples, First Nation, Metis and Inuit, from across Turtle Island (North America).

We are grateful to have the opportunity to work on this land, and by doing so give respect to our first inhabitants.
